Cypress trees growing in ponds; willow trees gracing their banks. But the real beauty lies in the way architect Gene Hamm set up the course.
Hamm starts you off easy, giving you a virtually straight-away par five, handicap 14, stretching 492 yards from the whites. Then follows that with a delightful little 332 yard par four, dogleg right, handicap 16. By then you ought to be warmed up. And by the time you make your way around the ponds and pines through the next thirteen holes, you'll be ready for Hamm's big finale, the three toughest finishing holes on the Grand Strand. Designed as a signature course by Larry Nelson, two-time PGA Champion and 1983 US Open Winner, and Jeff Brauer; the Avocet is a course where each hole is memorable for its enjoyment, aesthetics, and playability. All 18 holes are challenging, but fair tests of the player's skills.Creative contouring presents elevated tees and greens, double fairways, grass bunkers, and even a double green serving two holes. Water plays a strategic role in the design of the Avocet and with all Par 5's and Par 3's orienting to different points on the compass, each season's prevailing winds come into play. Multiple tees on each hole offer endless and ever-changing challenges. The Avocet was recognized by Golf Digest as one of "The Top 10 Best New Resort Courses in America" for 1994.

Located on the south end of the Grand Strand, Willbrook winds its way amid a centuries-old oak forest where nature abounds. It was recently featured on the award-winning television show "Nature Scene" for its peaceful coexistence of golfers and nature. Willbrook is also home of the Bryan Van Der Riet Golf Academy where a better game is guaranteed, with personal instruction and the latest in computer swing analysis!
The par-5 15th hole, demonstrates the many challenges of the wetlands, waterways and stately oaks used in this great design. Willbrook is known for not only the tactical play ability required, but also for the natural surroundings you'll experience. This makes it a favorite of returning women golfers.

Encompassing over 500 acres between Conway and South Myrtle Beach, SC, The Witch was created as a world of its own, carefully removed from the distractions of homes, hotels, and development.GOLF Magazine says, "There is probably not another course like this Dan Maples jewel any place in the world."Over 4,000 feet of bridgework span hundreds of acres of wetlands, left intact as Nature's perfect hazards. But the beauty of the setting doesn't diminish the challenge lurking in the layout. In the best spirit of golf, The Witch was designed to bring out the best in players of all levels. It's an unforgettable golfing experience.

Take Hole #13, for example. It's a 408-yard, Par 4 that plays through a valley, surrounded by towering mounds covered with all kinds of flowers, shrubs, and Love grass. That Love grass is beautiful, but it's a beast if you get caught in it. The slight dogleg right of the layout is perfect for my left-to-right shot. The second shot is onto a large undulating green, guarded by two bunkers in the front. Shooting par on #13 is a satisfying experience!

The 270-acre site is blessed with a dense stand of oaks, pines, and magnolias. Coastal golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area are usually rather flat but this site has several natural 35-foot elevation changes, which slope down to South Carolina's most beautiful stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway.
With respect for the land, the golf course was built one hole at a time. At Myrtle Beach's Glen Dornoch, each hole flows with the natural terrain of lakes, live oaks, and spectacular marsh and river views. If you've ever dreamed of playing one of the world's truly great courses.... that dream can now be a reality. On line tee times are now available! View Scorecard and Course Layout |

Long Bay's formidable features include: countless large, man-made mounds that are lethal near the green; handsome but, deadly par-3s ( especially No. 13's island green); bottomless bunkers surrounding small landing surfaces; and a striking horseshoe waste bunker on the signature hole, the 353-yard No. 10, that has become one of the most recognized in golf.

In 1996, Arnold Palmer and the Palmer Design Group returned to Myrtle Beach National and transformed the North Course into a brand new course --- one of the most visually exciting and challenging courses in America. By moving over 400,000 cubic yards of dirt, adding bulkheading, 7,000 azaleas and 600 hardwood trees, enlarging lakes, bunkers and greens, and planting new "Crenshaw" bentgrass greens, Palmer created what many believe to be the finest course on the Grand Strand--King's North.

Leopard's Chase Golf Club is the newest ferocious "Top Cat" at Ocean Ridge Plantation, joining the award winning Tiger's Eye, Panther's Run and Lion's Paw. This breathtaking par 72 championship layout was designed by renowned golf course architect and land planner Tim Cate. Labeled "a masterpiece" by those fortunate enough to have played Leopard's Chase the course features mature TifSport Bermudagrass fairways and immaculately manicured L-93 bentgrass greens. Traversing more than 220 acres of natural coastal terrain, Leopard's Chase is graced with scenic landscapes, scattered with native grasses and plantings, including preserved wetlands, creating a series of picturesque vistas. The level of detail -from landscaping to extensive drainage- in unison with the time Tim Cate spent crafting Leopard's Chase, gives the course a mature look uncommon to most new courses.
Highlighting the front 9 is the par 4 fifth hole, with its "island" green awash in a sea of pearl-white sand created by a large waste bunker that stretches 90 yards into the fairway. The biggest architectural splash on the course occurs at the par four 18th hole which moves slightly leftward to an elevated green guarded by an elegant man-made waterfall. Sixteen hundred gallons of water per minute cascade down a wall of coquina boulders, the same type of rocks that made Tiger's Eye famous. Leopard's Chase features 5 sets of tees to offer a challenge suitable to all levels of golfers with the championship tees stretching to a formidable 7155 yards and carrying a slope of 140 and a course rating of 74.3. |

Newly designed by Golf Course Architect Rick Robbins, Palmetto Greens offers many challenging and fun-filled days for golf lovers! Palmetto Greens' layout consists of 6,345 yards of eighteen unique holes that are sure to provide visually stunning views of man-made 15 ft. waterfalls and the distinction of several grasses running in contrast along the fairways in defiant unison. The L93 Bentgrass greens are sure to please any golfer as they roll like a gentle breeze coming off the ocean to cool even the hottest day. Palmetto Greens' greens are not too overwhelmingly unreadable, but will challenge any player who finds himself on the wrong side of the hole. As far as the waterfalls, Palmetto Greens boasts three, two of them on par 3's. Just make sure you make it over the cascading water and you will be just fine. The waterfalls are just a couple of risk-reward obstacles as white sanded bunkers make you think twice of using the big stick off the tee or the shortest iron in the bag for short shots. |
